Sizes
Baby (6-12 months): 14" circumference x 8" height
Toddler (1-3 years): 16" circumference x 8.5" height
Child (4-10 years): 18" circumference x 9" height
Instructions
- Cast on 96 stitches with the main color yarn.
- Knit in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 2 inches.
- Begin the cable pattern:
- Row 1: Knit 12, cable 6, knit 12, cable 6, knit 12, cable 6, knit 12
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Row 3: Knit 6, cable 6, knit 12, cable 6, knit 6
- Row 4: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat rows 1-4 for the desired length of the hat.
- Shape the crown:
- Row 1: *Knit 12, cable 6, knit 6*
- Row 2: Purl all stitches.
- Row 3: *Knit 6, cable 6, knit 6*
- Row 4: Purl all stitches.
- Repeat rows 1-4 until there are 24 stitches remaining.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull to close.
- Sew the side seam of the hat.
- Make the bear ears:
- Cast on 12 stitches with the contrast color yarn.
- Knit in stockinette stitch for 6 inches.
- Bind off all stitches.
- Repeat steps 1-3 to make the second ear.
- Sew the ears to the top of the hat.
- Make the bear eyes:
- Cut two small circles out of black felt.
- Sew the circles to the front of the hat.
- Make the bear nose:
- Cut a small oval out of brown felt.
- Sew the oval to the front of the hat.
- Make the bear mouth:
- Embroider a small line across the bottom of the nose.
